The Sudbury Rowing Club, located on the shore of beautiful Ramsey Lake in Sudbury, is a not for profit organization which is run solely by volunteers who are dedicated to the sport of rowing. Formed in the early 1990s, the Club was first located in a hospital parking lot adjacent to Bell Park, on the shores of the lake, and was enclosed in an outdoor fenced-in storage area.
Without docks, members had to walk knee deep into the water to launch their boats, no mean feat in the chilly May waters. Eventually, the Sudbury Rowing Club joined with the Sudbury Canoe Club and the Sudbury Dragon Boat Festival in a shared boathouse on Elizabeth Street.
We are now proud and fortunate to be located in a brand new facility, the Northern Water Sport Centre, with our Sudbury Canoe Club and Sudbury Dragon Boat Festival partners. Furthermore, we look forward to continuing to build our partnership with them and the City of Greater Sudbury. The Sudbury Rowing Club has been integral in the creation of this facility and we now take great pride in being a member on the Operational Board of Directors.
As members of Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) and RowOntario as well as Ontario Adventure Rowing (OAR) the club offers recreational (“sport”) and competitive programs for masters, high school and adaptive rowers, and is also home to a thriving Laurentian University rowing program.
The club owns rowing shells for members to use, from singles to eights. Storage is available for privately-owned member shells as well. Members of the Sudbury Rowing Club believe in working together for the benefit of their community to promote and encourage active participation in the sport of rowing.
