Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant Project
Sportlink-Greater Sudbury Sport Council is pleased to announce a new project funded through the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
Helping to foster more active lifestyles, the goal of this initiative is to assist in the training and certification of coaches, officials and volunteers, in a variety of sports, with the impact expected to reach the lives of more than 80,000 people in Nothern Ontario.
Over the course of the next 12 months, SportLink will be conducting research on the challenges and opportunities regarding training coaches, officials, etc… in amateur sports in Northern Ontario. We will also be looking to find creative methods to bring training to areas where time and travel costs may be prohibitive compared to the methods used in other regions of Ontario. One main focus is the use of technology, specifically the likes of Contact North (educational based video conferencing network with reach that extends province-wide) to allow for smaller Northern communitites to gain training via online seminars/workshops.
Our hope is that the end result creates higher quality programming and infrastructure to support physical activity throughout Northern Ontario, using current technologies, with an emphasis on training across all amateur sports.
